Keep your Family Safe at Home

  • A fire escape plan is a key part of home fire safety. Fire authorities suggest having a minimum of two exits out of every room.
  • Learn how to stay low and avoid smoke. Decide on a safe meeting place outside. Once out - stay out. Practice will only improve your preparedness. Hold family fire drills at least twice a year.
  • Consider installing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, near and inside every bedroom. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. Consider replacing alarms every 10 years.
  • Learn what ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ means and how to react if clothes catch fire.
  • Consider having everyone learn how and when to use a fire extinguisher.
